Legislative work on the act on Renewable Sources of Energy has been accelerated
Legislative work on the Act on Renewable Sources of Energy has been recently significantly accelerated. This month, the legal committee has finished its work, and the draft may be processed at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The draft Act on Renewable Sources of Energy introduces new principles of ensuring support to renewable sources of energy, which is aimed to respond to Poland’s obligations resultant from the climate policy of the EU in terms of the share of renewable sources of energy in the total energy production.
Quick enactment of the draft Act is in the interest of a broad prosumer group, who, by way of using renewable sources of energy, wish not only to economize on their installations and appliances, but also to sell the surplus of energy so generated. The draft introduces, among others, the definition of microinstallation, which is deemed to be a low-power installation using renewable sources of energy for subsistence energy production. Surpluses of such generated energy may be further sold, with some defined entities being obliged to buy them out at a cost of 80% of the market price. What is interesting – for using microinstallations and selling out energy surpluses neither running a business activity nor licence holding will be required. Let’s hope that the legislative work will prove seamless and as soon as this year the Act will be entered into force.
